Another Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
Togetherness on our first El Camino De Santiago in 2012

This photo was taken in 2012 on our first epic journey walking the El Camino de Santiago - Frances route.Together John and myself have completed three further routes comprising the Portuguese 2014, the Via de La Plata 2016 which we started in Cordoba and the Norte in 2017.

On the 18th August 2019, I will be leaving Australia, alone, heading to France then Spain to walk my 5th Camino, this time alone.

For John, I am providing him (hopefully)  with my daily journey as his health does not permit him to
walk with me.

We have both enjoyed our journeys together, always excited in the preparations before hand, this time the excitement is challenged as John has the horrid memory loss and looks at me sadly as I try on my clothes and practice bag packing yet again. At this stage it is important for him to see what I am doing and hopefully, with watching my daily occurrences, our talks about other journeys, plus showing him how I intend to write a post as often as possible, the shock of me walking out his daughters door on that August day will be a little less of a shock to him.

This journey for me is exceptionally meaningful. I have always referred to my Camino as a pilgrimage, John referred to his as a walk to take care of me, to ensure i didn't get lost!

This journey, is once again a pilgrimage, with a spirit guiding me. My heart will be heavy as I walk the pathway carrying a portion of my sons' ashes. This is the promise I made to myself on 26th January 2018 when Jeffrey was so tragically taken from us all.  On our last journey in Spain he would message and ask for information to get him ready, so he could do what I was doing when he reached my age, This will be the very best I can do. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

For me this quote  has a great deal of meaning. “The purpose of a pilgrimage is about setting aside a long period of time in which the only focus is to be the matters of the soul" author unknown.

I am often asked to explain why walk El Camino de Santiago, all I can relate to is describing the initial call to the Camino, the energy of the Camino and the unexplainable Camino events which all add up to,,,,,,,,,, there are those who have an understanding of what I am trying to say, there is no need for further explanations and there are those who no matter what or how I explain the unexplainable events, they just shrug their shoulders in disbelief.
